Atlanta Chapter United Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

Happy New Year!

Posted over 9 years ago by Amanda Sanders

Happy Holidays to the Atlanta Chapter of UAPRN! This past year has been both exciting and eventful. In January your new officers took office – President Marta Flood, VP Amanda Sanders, Treasurer Leslie Moore, and Secretary Cindy Rinehart. Leadership met quarterly to review the chapter's goals and needs. The chapter met monthly for dinner programs and chapter meetings.

We began by surveying the chapter to determine how to best meet the chapter's needs and increase chapter involvement. Survey results identified that the chapter is interested in networking events, legislative participation, and community volunteer events; therefore, this is what we focused our attention upon this year. The very first Transition Day was hosted by our chapter in May. This event provided new NP's and student NP's with valuable career knowledge, job opportunities, and aimed to increase chapter membership.  The chapter organized three volunteer events; Medshare in July and October and the Sacred Journey Memorial Service event also in October. Furthermore, our chapter was able to donate to a Medical Mission trip through GCSU – Healing Honduras. The Stone Mountain hike in September was well attended and served as an excellent networking event for members. Finally, the Atlanta chapter received both the Chapter of the Year Award and the Student Advocacy Award at the state UAPRN meeting.  As you can see, we have been busy!

Next year should be even more successful than 2014! Transition Day 2015 planning is underway. A transitions day committee and a legislative committee have been formed and are busy making plans for the upcoming year. We will continue to offer volunteer and networking events, work to increase our legislative participation, and aim to increase awareness about our organization in order to increase membership and offer more preceptor-ship opportunities in the future. We hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday season and we look forward to seeing you at the first chapter meeting in January.
