Senate Bill 334- Call Your Legislator

Posted about 6 years ago by Nicole Bello

Georgia Nurses!

Did you know, under the current Board of Nursing, it could take a year for an investigation to be resolved? The BON has NO CONTROL over what they share with the investigator, and that’s with every profession under the Secretary of State (SoS) like plumbers, hairdressers, etc.

If changed, we could increase autonomy and have more control over our budget.

SB (Senate Bill) 334 was filed last week!!! Many of other health professional boards like physicians and pharmacists have moved away from the Secretary of State (SoS) to being an independent board under Department of Community Health (DCH).

Evidence demonstrates that it only takes an average of about 8 phone calls from constituents to sway a legislator to vote “yes” or “no” on a bill.

All you have to do is:

  1. look up your state legislator: openstates.org
  2. save the state capitol # on your phone
  3. just read the simple script!

“Good morning, I am calling as a constituent of XXXXX(Legislators Name), I am asking him/her to support SB 334 that makes the board of Nursing an independent Board under the Department of Community Health.”

“Good morning, I am calling as a constituent of XXXXX(Legislators Name), I am asking him/her to support SB 334 which will give the GA Board of Nursing increased autonomy and greatly improving the efficiency of board operations for the benefit of all Georgians. Many other health professional boards, such as, dentists, physicians and pharmacists have made this move from SoS to being an independent board under DCH”

p.s. It doesn't matter if you are Democrat or Republican or independent/ undecided. It doesn't matter if you are not a nurse & just know a nurse!

It’s very helpful if letters are prepared and all we do is sign and email.

Kim, that maybe a good idea, I’ll forward this to a CAPRN representative. Thank you.
