AGPCNP Residency Program

The Atlanta Veterans Affair Medical Center (AVAMC) is pleased to announce its Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Primary Care Residency Program. The Residency Program is a Post-Graduate education training program for newly licensed and certified Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioners (AGPCNP) with no previous experience working in an NP role. The residency is a: full-time, salaried, 12-month, rigorous education, and clinical practice program. The structured residency program includes weekly didactic session, precepted primary care sessions, specialty rotations, simulations, and mentored independent clinic practice hours focused on provision of care to Veterans with diverse healthcare needs.

Applications for the 2018-2019 AGPCNP resident cohort are open from October 1st, 2017 to December 1st, 2017. The program will begin in April 2018.

It is interesting that the Atlanta VA has only chosen to accept AGPCNPs and not also to include FNPs as other state VA systems have done:

This program was initially, also, only for Emory students/graduates so I am very happy to see the expansion.

I do hope that many new grads take advantage of this opportunity as it will only strengthen their knowledge base and foundation of learning in the real world.
